Our Mission

THE VISION

"To make Grand Rapids a first rate technological "Go-To" place for technology centric and savvy business, dreamers and entrepreneurs."

This group is focused on developing the strategy for the vision.  We want to help usher in what the new technological frontier could look like for our area.  The tenants of this vision will be computer, media, wireless and Internet centric technologies.

Our focus is on creating an atmosphere of development in new technologies - then basing the foundations of those technologies and businesses that develop these new technologies here in Grand Rapids.

Areas of interest are:
  • Data Center
  • Cloud Computing
  • Software as a Service
  • Mobile App Development (Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, WebOS, WM)
  • OS Development (Linux, Chromium, OS X, iPhone, Microsoft, etc)
  • Super-Computing
  • Broadband Technologies (Wired and Wireless)
  • Web Centric language development (Java, Ruby, Python, .Net, etc)
  • Imaging & Production (Video, CG, photographic).
We are interested in helping to usher in the new economic engine for our area.

THE PROBLEM

People from the area and from around the world come to our colleges and universities here in the Grand Rapids area.  The sad fact is that most of them leave.  Our state, and closer to home West Michigan, is suffering from a massive "Brain Drain".  Our biggest export in Michigan isn't automotive - its creative and intellectual people.

Michigan is the Ivy League of the Great Lakes region but unlike the real Ivy League our graduate retention statistics are more like the poison vs. the English variety.

THE START

Grand Rapids is a wonderful place with bright and creative people from all walks of life.
The GRTP is interested in creating the environment that would help reduce the brain drain.  We want to retain those who come to our universities and schools, graduate, and give them a viable reason to stay, build, and grow in Grand Rapids.

YOUR HELP

To help implement this vision we are calling on computer, media, and internet technology movers and shakers to help us build our strategy.  We are looking for business owners, educators, entrepreneurs, engineers, media experts and moguls, marketing and PR, NGO's, government officials, organizers and cheer leaders to help us.

We can all play a part in turning Grand Rapids into a technological economic engine for today and tomorrow.
